On Saturday afternoon 28th March 2026 in the Franklin Hall, Spilsby, Dr Brian Hodgkinson returned to talk to us about “Tudor Paperwork: the Louth St James Churchwardens’ Accounts, 1527- 1570 “
Brian who has given us many talks in the past, spoke to a full room of avid listeners on a very interesting time in England’s, Lincolnshire’s and the Churches history. A time covering the start of The English Reformation that began in 16th-century England when the Church of England broke away first from the authority of the pope and bishops over the King Henry VIII and The Lincolnshire Rising that began in the Autumn of 1536 in Louth and would go on to be the start of the biggest rebellion of the Tudor period.
Brian’s talk showed by using the Louth St James Churchwardens’ Accounts, 1527- 1570 how the effects on the Church unfolded. It was very rare written history recorded at the time it was happening.
The themed cake this week was made my Chris Morgan (thanks Chris) and cut by Brian, eaten by all.
Very many thanks Brian for another very interesting talk, we always enjoy you visits and look forward to the next one.
