On Friday evening, the 10th of July 2026 in a very warm Franklin Hall, Spilsby, we were very pleased to welcome Geoff Mullet, who gave us an illustrated talk on the Peregrines of Louth.
Peregrine falcons almost disappeared from England in the 1960s, but with restrictions on pesticide use on farmland, their numbers have slowly recovered. Since the late ‘noughties’, peregrines have nested on the tower of St James’s church in Louth. For most of those years, Geoff Mullet has installed and monitored a series of web-cameras to observe and record the nesting, breeding and rearing of peregrine chicks each year. Geoff has compiled the highlights of each year’s activity into a lecture with video footage of each stage of the Louth falcon’s life.
After cutting the themed cakes and signing the apron, Geoff’s talk was introduced by (our guardian angel) Dave Start who had read out the list of our next events. It was most interesting and informative evening and he gave us a blow-by-blow view of the life cycle of the Peregrines of Louth Church with still photos and film footage explaining each of the various stages.
