On the 14th April 2026 in the Franklin Hall Spilsby, Denise Wheatley gave us a talk on the Royal Arms in Lincolnshire Churches.
It was a Sandwich Filler Talk lasting just an hour at lunch time with an enthusiastic audience awaiting this talk from Denise. It began with the picture from Sutterby Church of all that remains of its Royal Arms, a faint outline of the rear end of a unicorn with its tail pointing down. Denise then when on to give us a brief history of when and why Royal Arms are in Churches. It is a subject that is not very well known or recorded, Denise and Geoff spent a lot of time visiting and recording most of the churches in Lincolnshire that still had them.
It was a very interesting, informative and enjoyable talk that went down well with everyone there. It was well put together with many versions of the Arms shown, the talk finished as you would expect with Sutterby Church’s Arms compared to those found in Lincolnshire and why so big in such a small church.
Again, a brilliant talk Denise, many thanks, and we look forward to the next.
