On Wednesday evening 23 April 2025 Jean Howard came to the Franklin Hall, Spilsby and gave us a talk titled “The Lost World of Walmsgate”.
Jean spoke to us of Walmsgate Hall and gardens that had once stood proud and well cared for there, the couple who lived in it and its history. As the generations passed and gave up living there, it eventually became unwanted and uncared for and 1950 all the requisites of the garden were put up for auction, plants, paving slabs, fountains, pots everything. The house and chapel were demolished and the site cleared. There are still a few reminders of it in the form of walls and some garden structures that were too big to move, and parts of the chapel that were reused at Langworth.
It was a very interesting and witty talk, illustrated with slides of the Hall and gardens and the family who lived there.
The themed cake was made by the Artisan Baker of Firsby and depicted part of the remaining ruins of Walmsgate Hall, it was cut by Jean Howard, who also signed the S.O.S. apron.
Very many thanks to Jean Howard for her talk which was enjoyed by all.
